The District Electoral Commission at Súðavíkurhreppur announces that there will be non-partisan elections in the Súðavík District Election 14 May 2022, as no lists of candidates were received before the required deadline.

According to Electoral Act no. 112/2021 the following have the right to vote in Súðavíkurhreppur:

A. Every Icelandic citizen who has reached the age of 18 at the time of the election and has a registered domicile in the municipality.

B. Every Danish, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish citizen, provided that that person otherwise complies with the conditions of item A.

C. Any foreign citizen, other than those specified in item B, who has been registered as domiciled in this country for three consecutive years before election day, provided that he otherwise complies with the conditions of item A.

In Article 6 of the Electoral Act no. 112/2021, anyone who has the right to vote in the municipality according to Article 4 is eligible for election to the local government if he has an unblemished reputation.

According to Article 49(4) of the Electoral Act, those who are eligible to stand for election, of a sound mind and physically healthy, and are under the age of 65, are obliged to accept election to the local government.

The following individuals have, at their own initiative, withdrawn themselves from eligibility and do thus not stand for election to the municipal council of Súðavíkurhreppur according to the authority in the election law no. 112/2021 Article 49(5), where is stated that those who have previously served on a local council may withdraw the eligibility:

An announcement regarding the polling stations and the execution of the municipal elections in Súðavíkurhreppur on 14 May 2022 will be published later.
